After passing through several owners' hands after Machado, the Centinela Ranch was bought by Robert Burnett of Scotland who expanded the ranch home, installing wood floors and a kitchen. Burnett later leased the Ranch to Catherine Freeman, wife of Inglewood founding father Daniel Freeman (1837-1918)\" Daniel Freeman purchased the property after Catherine's death and had a failed attempt at developing the property into a commercial venture. However, in 1887 the land near Rancho Centinela was surveyed, and in 1888 the town began developing under the Centinela-Inglewood Land Company, of which Freeman was a director. In 1908 Inglewood was incorporated as part of the city of Los Angeles. During the 1920s Inglewood grew rapidly, quickly developing a large part of Los Angeles."},{"label":"Transcription","value":"On front: \"La Casa de la Centinela Adobe, historical Spanish house built in the early 1800's, where Inglewood was founded by Daniel Freeman. All are welcome to the last / Of this ancient faded story; / Here the present keeps the past, / Here the Casa holds its glory, / Where the passing of New Spain / Left its romance for tomorrow; / All who lived here yet remain, / Bits of laughter and of sorrow. / Once the ox-cart, loaded high, / Came with riches from the vineyard, / Where the sea-winds softly lie, / With the old Pueblo windward. / Now no Californio / Watches herd down this barranca. / Yet time does not seem to go; / And the old walls, painted blanca, / Whisper, whisper, a cappella, / Of Adobe Centinela! Norris, California Poet Laureate.\""},{"label":"Language","value":"eng"},{"label":"Publisher","value":" Published and distributed by Centinela Adobe Ass'n and Inglewood Chamber of Commerce"},{"label":"Type","value":["Postcards"]},{"label":"Digital Identifier","value":"LML_MS-042-000400001"},{"label":"Object Identifier","value":"LML_MS-042-00040"},{"label":"Geographic Location","value":"Inglewood (Calif.)"},{"label":"Subject","value":"Adobe houses--California--Inglewood; Historic buildings--California--Inglewood"},{"label":"Creator","value":"Weinstein, Lee"},{"label":"Title","value":"Adobe Centinela, Inglewood, California"},{"label":"Date Range","value":"circa 1950"},{"label":"Source","value":"Department of Archives and Special Collections, William H.
