The figure of this great \"domestic missionary\" is vested in surplice and purple stole. The stole is symbolic of penitence, and calls to mind St. Regis' great work in bringing the wayward, the criminal, and other lapsed persons back to Christ through his example and his eloquence. In his left hand is a ciborium, and in his right hand the Holy Eucharist, which he is about to administer to a communicant.  The shield of Fordham University consists of the arms of the Society of Jesus, appearing on a field of blue that is backed by the maroon of the University, the same color edging the whole. The coat of arms of the Society are framed in gold and decorated with silver fleurs-de-lys. The inscription reads: Fordham University, New York; the date of the foundation is 1841.
