Mex. My Dear Dad: Yesterday I received your very dear letter dated the 16th of this month that I now answer with pleasure. Francisco had already told me that all of you had been sick during all of the Holy Week, especially my mom. You now say that apparently you are all recovering, thanks be to God. As for us, only Guillo has continued in need of medical care, which we continue providing because we are fearful that if we don’t, we run the risk of something worse. Thankfully it seems that he is now getting better, although he is very skinny. I understand what you say with respect to the indicated trip to Tijuana. I will be eager to know the outcome of your proposed business venture and I await the new address. Yesterday I received a letter from the Favier gentlemen telling me that if I refuse to make remittance of funds they will be obligated to draw me [make a legal written demand]. I do not know to what extent they can bother me over here, that's just what I needed now; not even dead will they leave one in peace. If they have their way, I am sure that, if they can, they will take what little I have with which to support myself and this will not even be enough [to settle the debt], we'll see what happens. This is enough to become demoralized, because now when I most need the means of sustaining my family, which are now so numerous, is when these people pounce on me, wanting to take away the very means of support for my children. That is all I will say for now and I only want to make known to you our most affectionate regards for you, my mom and each one of my brothers and sisters. Your son who asks for your blessing. M.
