November 4, 1927 Mr. Juan Venegas Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico Dear Dad: Yesterday I had the pleasure of receiving your esteemed letter dated 28th of last month through which I know that all of you are well, thanks be to God. You also tell me that you will soon be able to inform me of what I asked you in my previous letter. It is possible that my operation will not take place because the doctors who were seeing me at Santa Rita Clinic have dragged it out and I cannot wait any longer because [I need]to get back to work or I will be left without money. Perhaps I would be cured immediately if I saw another doctor, but it would probably cost much more than I can now afford. Therefore I will have to remain this way until God wills otherwise. As for the illness, I will continue with it \"grudgingly\"32. I am in contact with a gentleman who is selling a business; he is asking one thousand dollars for it. But I have not yet made an offer because I am worried that I alone cannot take care of it. There are now two of them running it; the gentleman and his wife. Today I spent part of the day there to get an idea of the sales and it amounted up to $30.00 dollars. I don't believe it is a great business, but I am considering it because of my illness that recurs whenever I do other types of work. I would by now be almost a cadaver if I were forced to continue in this line of work [dishwasher] for a long period. Whereas in commerce, and in ownership, there are more possibilities and at least one is independent. As I was telling you, it is impossible for me to work alone and as for Lola it would be impossible for her to help me because she has more than enough to do with the boys; and [hiring] a maid here [is not an option since] they earn more than one does and besides there is no available room annexed to the store. Nevertheless, I have hope; and that is that you would agree to let Agustin come and work with me. Even though the business would not amount to much he would have what he earns free, because the expenses of the trip would be on my account. This would be of great help for us, as you can well imagine what it is like to have someone of confidence [work with you]. And it would be a good experience for him to be put on the right track here by my side, and furthermore he could always return whenever the circumstances called for it."},{"label":"Is Part Of","value":"Venegas Family Papers, Collection Number 99, Series 1.
