September 11, 1930 Mr. Juan Venegas Guadalajara, Jal. My Dear Dad: I answer your letter dated the 21st of August. Just as you told me in your letter about the land is what I communicated to that person [Felipe Jiménez]. Today I received a letter from him that was sent from Guadalajara, in which he urges me once more to tell him if we can negotiate terms for rental of the lands or if not at least going into partnership planting a crop, say, on the clearing of the hill. I’m sending you the letter, and I believe that Don Luciano Jiménez has a hand in this matter because the envelope said to answer to his address in Zapotlanejo. With regards to my own business here, I will tell you that since I have not wanted to extend it beyond what I myself can manage, it continues being more or less in the same condition as always, it provides enough to live on, even though my expenses are heavy with so many boys. However, I have never had such a peaceful life, and if I have a few headaches it is because of the pending matters that exist over there and that I often receive letters referring to them. Frankly speaking, if it weren't for our families that are over there and the affection for our homeland which cost us so dearly, I would already be thinking of liquidating everything over there and think of not ever returning, but no, I hope someday the road will be expeditious for our return, and I don't doubt it will be soon, although I think my debts will not leave me in peace, but I would figure out what to do. Well tell me something about over there and now I say goodbye with affectionate regards from all of us to all of you. Your son who asks for your blessing, M. Venegas P.S. Receive many regards from Lola who says that she won't go, not to plan on it, that best they come over here and very soon; that my mother will recuperate from asthma over here, because that is what happened to me, it must be that the \"Asmador\" factory is over here and we often pass in front of it. I am sending Chayo [his sister] a plain handkerchief in sign of affection. I am also sending some photos taken fifteen days ago except they turned out with too much light."},{"label":"Is Part Of","value":"Venegas Family Papers, Collection Number 99, Series 1. Subseries A.
