June 1, 1931 Mr. Francisco Venegas Guad. Jal. Mex. My dear brother: In reference to your letter dated the 20th of last month I write the present one wishing all of you good health. I don’t know the sale price that was offered to Mr. Padilla for the houses, which did not suit him, I suppose that he would have to pay off the account balance to the Martinez gentlemen and accept as his payment whatever was left over. Not part of said sale is the parcel of land bought from Don Enrique, in Rancho Viejo and that was also part of the sale to the Martinez' gentlemen. This piece of land belongs to el Cerro because of the exchange made with don José and Felix. With regard to the proposal that my dad is offering to Don Gabriel, I believe that this is more than we can do given the circumstances in which we all find ourselves. And more so because as of now I would not be able to assure my dad of reimbursing him that amount which is the very thing that might be needed now that my mom's health is so delicate. Also you might need it for your own pending business venture. Also if my dad does this I would find myself obligated to pay at once an amount for which I have no estimate. On the other hand if my dad sees a viable business ahead with D. Gabriel that will give him better results you could let me know the details and that way, as you say, I could speak to him about el Cerro. Although for this year, I have already rented the two pasture fields for $250 pesos to that man who has been living there [Felipe Jiménez]. Nevertheless I would somehow see how I could arrange to sell it [el Cerro] to D. Gabriel if he would accept the same rental payment; but always making it clear that the land belongs by inheritance to my wife, because it would not be good for don Gabriel to think that I own properties not in my name so as to avoid payment of my debts. Perhaps when my dad proposed to pay off my account with his land [el Cerro], this person might think that I had sent you money with which to pay my debt and that you instead wanted to keep the money by selling him said property, is this not believable? Receive each of you a big hug from your brother who loves you and many regards from all of us in this house. M. Venegas P.S. I expect your letter soon."},{"label":"Is Part Of","value":"Venegas Family Papers, Collection Number 99, Series 1. Subseries A.
