May 23, 1931 Mr. Francisco Venegas Guadalajara, Jal. Mex. Dear Uncle Francisco: I had not answered your letter before because I have been very busy, my mom has to help my dad at the store and I have to take care of my little brothers when I’m not at school. All of us are now in good health, thanks be to God, and it is my hope that all of you are also in good health. It has now been a long time since my dad has given us any money to deposit because he has many expenses and business is not very good. I’m thinking about everything you told me a good son should do, and I ask God to make me a good boy in order to fulfill all my obligations the same way you are doing with our grandparents. You ask me what my day is like from the time I get up: well after praying a bit we get up at 7:00 and by 8:30 we are on our way to school. I would have made my bed by then, swept the room and cleaned up my brothers because we have to go dressed up the best we can and that includes a tie. I believe I am ahead of my class. I will send you my arithmetic and grammar notes. Here we also study Sacred History and Catechism. I would very much like to be a missionary aviator and transport missionaries who go to China and other pagan places. The closest church for us is Our Lady of Angels, being staffed by Spanish missionaries. It is about 8 blocks from here; every Sunday we have to go to the 9:00 children’s Mass which is at 9:00, and supervised by the Sisters. Almost every Sunday Richard and I receive ommunion, as well as mom and dad. After we close the store about noon we almost always go to a very big and very beautiful park where mostly Mexican people go; and there we eat when we are very hungry under a tree near a lake where there are many geese and canoes; after eating a lot, we play a lot and we hear a band play and about 5:00 we return in order to open the store at 6:00, and we go to bed at 8:00. All of us would be so happy if all of you would come here. I’m sure you would like it very much and even decide to stay here. I will tell you other things in another letter. Please say hello to Papá Juan and Mamá Julia, to my uncle Agustin, and to Chayo, and to my uncle Ignacio and to Lupita as well. Your nephew who loves you, José Miguel Venegas"},{"label":"Is Part Of","value":"Venegas Family Papers, Collection Number 99, Series 1. Subseries E.
