De Longpre moved to Los Angeles around 1898.  In the early 1900s, de Longpre purchased a plot of land located on the corner of Cahuenga Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard, where he built a lavish mansion in a Moorish style with a three acre garden surrounding the home.  De Longpre's home quickly became one of Hollywood's first tourist attractions and could be seen on the Pacific Electric railway's Balloon Route Excursion.
