July 1, 1930  Mr. Juan Venegas  Guadalajara, Jal. México  Dear Dad:  I believe that probably by now you have received my letter answering your former one. The  object of this one, in addition to greeting you, is to ask that you please do me the favor of  suggesting how much I should ask for the rental of the parcels of lands from that person who is  at the ranch. He wrote again and urges me to once and for all tell him how much he should plan  on. He tells me he will pay rent one year in advance beginning the first of January. Naturally  since I don't know the market value of seeds and the rest, I don't know what to ask for, and so if  it is not an inconvenience I would be very grateful if you would tell me what it should be.  I now see that you totally have no faith in this matter, but if this person gives something it is  better than nothing because there is no one else to do something here, much less Don Silviano  who would like to scare away the \"jicotes\" [wasps] that are biting him.  With nothing more for the time being, and wishing all good health, I await your new letter, your  son who asks for your blessing,  M. Venegas  P.S.
