It passes through MacArthur Park (formerly named Westlake Park) and several major shopping areas including Beverly Hills, the \"Miracle Mile\", and Westwood, and alongside Lafayette Park (formerly named Sunset Park)\" The \"Miracle Mile\" is a section of Wilshire Boulevard between Fairfax and La Brea Avenues.  Its initial success is largely the product of efforts by real estate developer A. W. Ross during the 1920s.  It grew into a busy commercial area, and at its peak was home to several department stores, including the May Company, Broadway, Coulter's, Desmond's, Silverwoods, Mullen and Bluett, and Myer Siegel.  Beginning in the 1960s, its focus shifted slightly away from shopping as the area became home to a number of museums, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, George C.
