My dear brother:  I want to refer to two letters dated the 25th of September and the 23rd of October which I have in  front of me and I beg forgiveness for taking so long to answer them.  I thank you from the bottom of my soul for the gift I understand you all made at the request of  our mother for my feast day. At the same time I hope you had a happy feast day the fourth of this  month together with our parents and siblings and from which three of us [Miguel, Alfonso and  Soledad] who form part of that family are so far away.  We would like to return someday; will that day ever come? Who knows, no one knows the  future. Soledad tells me she is extremely grateful to god for granting her the life she has chosen.  Will she be able to return to our country soon? As for me I see that it is not so easy to return after  what we all know has happened; much time is needed for so much hatred to vanish and so many  things to be forgotten. Another important thing is the education of the children. What is it like  now? What kind of school are Chayo and Lupe going to?  Anita tells us she is leaving the city and for that reason I assume she will leave some things of  ours with you of which I no longer know what they may be. She also says some people owe  something, if she takes you something, please pay Salvador Gutierrez or his mother who gave  them the things he sent; $5.50 which they say they spent. I believe it was $8.00 but since they  owe me $1.25 dollars that are x 2.50 pesos that leaves what is indicated above to their favor. i  already answered my dad's last letter although with somewhat of a delay.
