The producer of the object left his colophon on the side with the painting. His name was Hsien Ke. The poem on the back of the object is attributed to the Tang Dynasty poet Li Po. His colophon can be seen at the end of his poem. The brush holder was certainly used as there are still ink stains on the inside bottom. The landscape scene depicts a man fishing in the Yellow River with mountains and houses in the background. The artist uses several colors of ink to create a contrast in the painting. The painting is small and finely detailed. There is a wooden stand with the object that may be original. One edge of the stand has been chipped off. The bottom on the brush holder is made of a separate piece of ivory as the sides consist of a hollow ivory tusk."},{"label":"Title","value":"Ivory brush holder"},{"label":"Rights","value":"Materials available through GettDigital encompass a wide range of works, many of which are in the public domain.
