Though it was published in early August 1861 following the Union defeat at First Bull Run, the cartoon expresses faith that the Union cause will eventually prevail. By portraying Scott as gallant astride his eagle and representing Davis as scared and weak aboard his cotton bale donkey, the cartoonist is portraying the Union cause as more just and noble. This is reinforced by the fact that Davis is being driven towards the devil and a barrel marked \"brim stone.\" Ironically the war did end via a war strategy that was very similar to Scott's proposed Anaconda Plan, albeit the timeline ended up being greater than probably supposed by the artist at the time."},{"label":"Creator","value":["Unknown"]},{"label":"Date","value":"D:03 M:08 Y:1861"},{"label":"Date Original","value":"1861-08-03;"},{"label":"Title","value":"The Final Result of the War."},{"label":"Reference URL","value":"http://cdm16274.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p4016coll2/id/245"}],"description":"The Final Result of the War.","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/eca237bf-fa83-4e1a-9c38-3c7a29ab7824/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"The Final Result of the War.","height":3162,"width":3464,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/eca237bf-fa83-4e1a-9c38-3c7a29ab7824/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/eca237bf-fa83-4e1a-9c38-3c7a29ab7824","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":3162,"width":3464},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/eca237bf-fa83-4e1a-9c38-3c7a29ab7824/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/eca237bf-fa83-4e1a-9c38-3c7a29ab7824/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/eca237bf-fa83-4e1a-9c38-3c7a29ab7824/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/logo"}
