On both side of her protruded sheng crown (which is often shaped on a transverse rod with discs at its ends, clearly shown here), there are two flowers. She wears a long sleeved garment with the cloud motif and an elegant flowing sash around her waist. The hem of her close-fitting garment spreads out around her feet. Her left hand is raised in a graceful gesture. Her right hand carries a ling-chih (a sacred fungus or mushroom of immortality). These elements are emblematic motives of the Taoist Immortals and are principal ways of identifying the deity. It is not clear whether she carries a Ju-I (a ceremonial scepter as an emblem of authority), but she does not \" calculate with her fingers of her left hand, as if enumerating, about life and feels reassured by the Ling-chi\" (Dr. Kramer's note). This is a recurring hand gesture shown in paintings and sculptures of fine aristocrat women. The elegance and the fine details of the figurine clearly confirm the artistic style of the Qianlong period."},{"label":"Title","value":"Lady with ling-chih fungus"},{"label":"Rights","value":"Materials available through GettDigital encompass a wide range of works, many of which are in the public domain.
