Many of the Confederacy's raiders were built in Britain, bringing scrutiny from the United States government. Commerce raiders often utilized neutral ports as docking stations in between expeditions, especially as the blockade of the South became more efficient. One such neutral location was Brazil. This cartoon shows the Bay of Bahia as a \"Brazilian Hotel\" for Confederates. While several Rebels relax in the background, Uncle Sam is walking away with a ship labelled \"Florida\" referencing the event on October 7, 1864 when Commander Napoleon Collins captured the CSS Florida at Bahia. Meanwhile John Bull is distraught and comments on his looming bankruptcy (next to him is a small and sad British lion). The Florida was one in a string of captured or sunk raiders and this cartoon is infering that these losses are also causing British monetary damages since they bankrolled many of the vessels."},{"label":"Alternate Title","value":"While the gallant pirate, Morris is enjoying the hospitality of (neutral) Brazilians at Bahia, Uncle Sam Walks off with his ship.
