Langyao red is a type of high-fired red glaze from the Jingdezhen kilns when they were supervised by Lang Tingji, the Governor of Jiangxi from 1705 to 1712, during the Kangxi reign of the Qing dynasty. Copies of vessels with the Langyao-red glaze were made during the successive Yongzheng and Qianlong reigns. This small Langyao red-glazed vase is plainly decorated. The bottom of the base is white glazed. The mouthrim, the upper neck as well as the interior are glazed in millet yellow. The exterior of the globular body shows indistinct large crackles. In addition, it appears to exhibit wood grain patterns within the excellent Langyao red glazing. The outer sides of the neck are finely crackled. The Langyao red glaze on this vase appears bright and glossy, which is characteristic of products made after the Kangxi period.
