The thin man has a wide brimmed hat with the Rebel flag sticking out of it, pants labeled \"Secession\" and \"Treason,\" and is holding a ripped portion of the Constitution. A knife, pistol, and paper labeled \"Sumpter\" fall from the man's pockets. Behind him are two other similarly dressed thin men. In the background is a faint image of George Washington. With the Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter hopes for a peaceful resolution to the misunderstanding were dashed. There were those who still believed that peace could be attained without bloodshed, but the attack proved the seriousness of the situation to the American people. Lincoln responded to the attack by issuing a call for volunteers to put down the rebellion."},{"label":"Creator","value":["Unknown"]},{"label":"Date","value":"D:08 M:06 Y:1861"},{"label":"Date Original","value":"1861-06-08"},{"label":"Title","value":"Columbia Awake at Last"},{"label":"Reference URL","value":"http://cdm16274.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p4016coll2/id/339"}],"description":"Columbia Awake at Last","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/86dc811f-fd8c-4727-b8b6-524656153061/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Columbia Awake at Last","height":4647,"width":3540,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/86dc811f-fd8c-4727-b8b6-524656153061/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/86dc811f-fd8c-4727-b8b6-524656153061","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4,8]}]},"height":4647,"width":3540},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/86dc811f-fd8c-4727-b8b6-524656153061/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/86dc811f-fd8c-4727-b8b6-524656153061/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/86dc811f-fd8c-4727-b8b6-524656153061/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/logo"}
