A sign in the background shows two arrows, one to Corinth and the other to Pittsburgh Landing. The Rebels are running towards the direction of Corinth as one soldier exclaims, \"Hurrah!! we've got another Victory!\" During the first day of the Battle of Shiloh on April 6, 1862 the Army of Mississippi under Albert Sidney Johnston pushed back Grant's Army of the Tennessee. Grant established the retreating army along a line of defense anchored around Pittsburgh Landing. That evening reinforcements from the Army of the Ohio under Don Carlos Buell arrived. The next day, April 7, saw a reversal in the tide of the battle as the reinforced Union troops forced the tired and outnumbered Confederates towards Corinth, Mississippi. Following the battle P.G.T. Beauregard, who took over Confederate command after Johnston was killed the first day, sent a report to Richmond that they had achieved complete victory. This cartoon is mocking Beauregard's \"victory\" as an obvious Confederate defeat as they were driven from the field with heavy losses."},{"label":"Creator","value":["Unknown"]},{"label":"Date","value":"D:03 M:05 Y:1862"},{"label":"Date Original","value":"1862-05-03"},{"label":"Title","value":"How the Rebels Win Victories!"},{"label":"Reference URL","value":"http://cdm16274.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p4016coll2/id/204"}],"description":"How the Rebels Win Victories!","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/8613956e-34f1-4022-a1b1-8f3bba0b63ab/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"How the Rebels Win Victories!","height":2424,"width":3539,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/8613956e-34f1-4022-a1b1-8f3bba0b63ab/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/8613956e-34f1-4022-a1b1-8f3bba0b63ab","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":2424,"width":3539},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/8613956e-34f1-4022-a1b1-8f3bba0b63ab/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/8613956e-34f1-4022-a1b1-8f3bba0b63ab/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/8613956e-34f1-4022-a1b1-8f3bba0b63ab/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/logo"}
