A band of cloud collars is depicted on the shoulders. The exterior of the belly is decorated with floral scrolls including non-Chinese lotuses, bats, shou (longevity) characters and coins against a coiling vine background. The bat is a pun for fu meaning good fortune and blessings. The coin is a symbol of wealth. The interior of this small jar and the bottom of the concave base are thinly covered with a lighter green glaze. On the bottom of the base there is a red seal mark \"hong xian nian zhi\" (Made during the Hongxian reign) in two columns. Accordingly, this piece may have been produced at that time. Hongxian is an era name adopted by Yuan Shikai (1859-1916) who proclaimed himself the Emperor of the Chinese Empire for a brief period from December 12, 1915 to March 22, 1916. This was opposed not only by the revolutionaries, but far more importantly, by Yuan's subordinate military commanders, who believed that Yuan's assumption of the monarchy would allow him to rule without depending on the support of the military. Faced with universal opposition, Yuan backed down. He died of kidney failure a few months later, on June 6, 1916."},{"label":"Title","value":"Small apple green-glazed eggshell-thin jar"},{"label":"Rights","value":"Materials available through GettDigital encompass a wide range of works, many of which are in the public domain.
