The two slaves are discussing the recent outbreak of fighting. Napoleon states that the fighting is occurring because they cannot come to a compromise. Venus in turn asks where this compromise can be gotten to which Napoleon responds the North. Venus responds that they should get a compromise even if it is expensive since brotherhood fighting is against the scripture. This cartoon is using Southern slaves as a means to express that a civil war should be avoided at all costs."},{"label":"Creator","value":["W.L.S."]},{"label":"Alternate Title","value":"Venus. \"You say dey's fitin', 'Poleon.\" Napoleon. \"Yes, Marster say dey is, 'cause dey can't get no Coppermise.\" Venus. \"Whar dey get dat?\" Napoleon. \"In de Norf, I bl'ieve.\" Venus. \"Well my Lor! sooner en' to fite, dey better git de Coppermise, ef it cos' a Hundred Dollar; dis ting of Brudderin' fittin' is agin de Scriptur!\""},{"label":"Date","value":"D:27 M:04 Y:1861"},{"label":"Date Original","value":"1861-04-27"},{"label":"Title","value":"[Untitled]"},{"label":"Reference URL","value":"http://cdm16274.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p4016coll2/id/194"}],"description":"[Untitled]","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/6789deec-d086-49ec-bdae-7eaddc094e1a/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"[Untitled]","height":2660,"width":2307,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/6789deec-d086-49ec-bdae-7eaddc094e1a/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/6789deec-d086-49ec-bdae-7eaddc094e1a","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":2660,"width":2307},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/6789deec-d086-49ec-bdae-7eaddc094e1a/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/6789deec-d086-49ec-bdae-7eaddc094e1a/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/6789deec-d086-49ec-bdae-7eaddc094e1a/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/logo"}
