The crow has a knife and is planning on exacting damage upon the Union forces under McClellan. On the right the plucked crow is shown flying away amidst a barrage of musket fire and a wall of bayonets. Published in August 1862, it is presenting that a severe blow had been dealt to the Confederacy during the recent Peninsula Campaign. Though McClellan did threaten Richmond and inflicted high causalities on the Confederates, the campaign ended up as a tactical Confederate victory. With Robert E. Lee taking command of the Confederate forces following the wounding of Joseph Johnston, he aggressively pushed the Union forces off the peninsula. Lee's aggressiveness contributed to these high Confederate casualties. The last battle of the campaign was Malvern Hill, part of the Seven Days Battles, where the Confederates took a considerable beating from Union artillery. However, McClellan still retreated and removed the pressure from Richmond. The fact that this cartoon was published following the campaign illustrates that many people still had faith in the ability of McClellan to lead a successful war effort."},{"label":"Creator","value":["Unknown"]},{"label":"Alternate Title","value":"The Confederate Crow (deeming itself an Eagle) makes a swoop upon the fleshpots of McClellan - but returns plucked."},{"label":"Date","value":"D:09 M:08 Y:1862"},{"label":"Date Original","value":"1862-08-09"},{"label":"Title","value":"Going Out for Wool and Getting Shorn"},{"label":"Reference URL","value":"http://cdm16274.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p4016coll2/id/221"}],"description":"Going Out for Wool and Getting Shorn","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/600fa6b7-7720-49ef-9126-d608f8497818/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Going Out for Wool and Getting Shorn","height":2460,"width":4678,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/600fa6b7-7720-49ef-9126-d608f8497818/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/600fa6b7-7720-49ef-9126-d608f8497818","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4,8]}]},"height":2460,"width":4678},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/600fa6b7-7720-49ef-9126-d608f8497818/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/600fa6b7-7720-49ef-9126-d608f8497818/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/600fa6b7-7720-49ef-9126-d608f8497818/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/logo"}
