Down with the Rebs.\" Above the bird's head is the statement, \"How are you gunboat.\" McClellan was not fully supportive of the peace platform adopted by the Democratic Party, but ran under it as their presidential nominee nonetheless. So while McClellan had the peace Democrats and Copperheads under his wing, he could not garner the support of the army (around 70% of Union soldiers voted for Lincoln) and of those politicians who wanted war.
