Originated from the Fu Jian kiln of the Song Dynasty, oil spots (you di) are variously called 'oil droplets,' 'rain drops,' 'dropping pearl'. The mature crystalline glaze has glistering round oil-spots (sometimes referred to as a partridge's feather pattern) of a robin's-egg blue color which has bluish iridescent oil-spots of different shapes. These techniques are widely used in modern Chinese porcelain. Some antique specimens of this type were very prized.
