It was not until the Qing period, however, that pieces from exceptionally fine stone were carved, as in the case of this censer. It is an archaistic vessel based upon an ancient bronze. It has a round body with two dragon-head loose ring handles, supported on three paw bowed feet. The knob of the domed cover is an openwork design of a Buddhist Lion (shih tzu kou) Fo dog.
