Floyd. He served as Secretary of War under James Buchanan until the end of 1860, at which time he resigned because of accusations of fraud regarding the transportation of war supplies to the South. Following John Brown's raid at Harper's Ferry, Floyd sent large caches of firearms to areas of the South as well as attempting to send heavy ordnance (this order was revoked by Buchanan). In a court hearing in early 1861 the indictments of conspiracy and fraud were thrown out. However, Floyd joined the Confederate army as a Brigadier General and famously fled Fort Donelson in Tennessee before it was captured under fear that his previous service of Secretary of War put him in danger of treason charges. This cartoon was published in March 1862 following the capture of Donelson and is supposing that Floyd were captured. The caption \"Well, if I did steal your gun, I didn't fire'em!\" is in reference to his actions as Secretary of War. In actuality Floyd was never captured, serving briefly as a Major General of Virginia militia before dying the next year."},{"label":"Creator","value":["Stephens, H. L.
