Charles Fechter was born in London on October 23, 1824. As a child he wanted to be a sculptor. He discovered his theatrical talent almost by accident when he accepted roles in some private productions done for friends. His acting career started in France in 1840 when he joined an acting group. By 1848 he acheived significant success. His style of acting had a huge influence in changing stage traditions in England, introducing the French romantic realism style to London stage. In 1870, Fechter made his acting debut in New York. He married once and had a son and daughter. He died on his farm near Quakertown, Pennsylvania on August 5, 1879."},{"label":"Creator","value":["Sarony, New York"]},{"label":"Title","value":"Fechter, Charles"},{"label":"Part of","value":["Nineteenth Century Notables GettDigital Collection"]},{"label":"Reference URL","value":"http://cdm16274.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p126301coll1/id/30"}],"description":"Fechter, Charles","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/4470355b-8441-46e0-ad65-88585204bd6a/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Fechter, Charles","height":1906,"width":1221,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/4470355b-8441-46e0-ad65-88585204bd6a/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/4470355b-8441-46e0-ad65-88585204bd6a","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1906,"width":1221},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/4470355b-8441-46e0-ad65-88585204bd6a/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/4470355b-8441-46e0-ad65-88585204bd6a/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/4470355b-8441-46e0-ad65-88585204bd6a/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/gettysburg/iiif/logo"}
