It has a large mouth and deep sides with a rounded base, and a footring. The bowl carries a reign mark, da qing kang xi nian zhi, which means, made in the Kangxi reign of the Great Qing dynasty. The peachbloom glaze jiang dou hong, is of a family of glazes developed in the Kangxi reign as a result of attempts to imitate red-glazed wares made in the Xuande reign of the Ming dynasty. The soft and elegant red color of the bowl is the so-called variegated peachbloom that has green mottles in the glaze. It is both green, resembling the color of spring water when it first appears, and red, resembling the hue of the rosy clouds at daybreak. According to a Guide of Chinese Antiques written in 1942 by Zhao Ruzhen, a prestigious connoisseur, antique peachbloom vessels are usually covered with a thick and lustrous layer of glaze. Later copies, however, are thinly and roughly glazed. Green mottles on the antique peachbloom vessels appear glossy, fine and smooth, but green mottles on later copies appear either too green or black. As for this peachbloom bowl, its red shade is too bright. The green mottles on it seem to be 'too green' and deliberately rendered. When observing them through a magnifier, they contain many bubbles and are almost all the same size, a quality commonly found on peachbloom vessel copies made in later copies. Therefore, it is evident that this piece is a later copy of the Kangxi products."},{"label":"Title","value":"Wan bowl"},{"label":"Rights","value":"Materials available through GettDigital encompass a wide range of works, many of which are in the public domain.
