Rodgers and Joseph G. Evetts, both of Lawrence County, Alabama, for damages and that the county sheriff has levied property including slaves & mules. Lawrence County, Alabama. 1857. 12.25x8\", unlined paper folded in half, writing on two sides only. Fold creases, staining, couple of tiny tears else good-very good. \n\"said suit, which was by Phillip D. Rooney (sp?) Sheriff of Lawrence County...levied upon certain slaves to wit, Owen, a man about thirty-five years of age, Fanny a woman about thirty five years of age, Booker about fifteen years of age, Emeline a girl about fourteen... Caroline a girl about 10... York, a boy about seven... Vanessa (sp?) a girl about seven, Gern (sp?) about five... one infant child and Jane about fifty...and ten mules\". Appears to be also a conflict of ownership as a Robert H. Cleere who \"claims a trial to the right of property\". Signed by the sheriff and all the parties involved, plus other participants ie. William S. Cleere, Hugh S.
