Dated 1837 being a trust document of sorts from Jane Hall bequeathing her slaves in trust to her daughter Laura Holt. It reads in part: \"I convey unto Ballin Hall (trustee) the following [slaves] / to wit /... Bole a boy about fifteen years old... and Amy a [slave] girl... to have and to hold said [slaves] forever but for the use and benefit of said daughter... and to her use only, not for the use, benefit, or interest of her said husband... After her death said [slaves] with their increase (progeny) are to go to such children of said Laura Holt...\" The document goes on to specify how these same two young slaves and any offspring they may have will further be divvied up among the daughters' children and grandchildren upon her death assuming the slaves had not been sold by the daughter beforehand. Signed by Jane Hall. Old Jane apparently did not think much of her son in law. She did value her slaves and her daughter. Bold and legible. Numerous separations at the folds have been repaired with archival tissue tape."},{"label":"Object Type","value":["Estate/Probate/Auction Records"]},{"label":"Rights","value":["Public Domain"]},{"label":"Subject Headings","value":["Estate Inventory"]},{"label":"Named Person(s)","value":["Benjamin Cooper","William Pruite","John Moore"]},{"label":"State of Origin","value":["Alabama"]},{"label":"Object Medium","value":["Manuscript material"]},{"label":"Archival Location","value":["FOUNDATION ARCHIVES ROOM"]},{"label":"Subject Theme","value":["Economy, Labor, Property & Commerce"]},{"label":"Decade","value":["1840"]},{"label":"Persons_Count","value":"3"},{"label":"State_Name","value":["Alabama"]},{"label":"Document Theme","value":["Government & Legal Records"]},{"label":"Surname","value":"Cooper|Pruite|Moore"},{"label":"First Name","value":"Benjamin|William|John"},{"label":"Major Theme","value":"Economy, Labor, Property & Commerce"},{"label":"Accession Number","value":"1841.AL.2022.007"},{"label":"Copyright Statement","value":["May be subject to copyright protection.
