When the first band played all the judges said away, for half those coon's could not read notes at sight then another band tried to play but made a frost, for some coon yelled out fight. Then from above, there came a sound as if the world had just drop down And all them coon's around that stand, said there's the band that wins the ham. And oh that Tune I heard went something just like that oh ain't that flat please give me a bat And all those yellow gal's said oh my ain't that grand And that's the tune that won the ham for that coon band A great big coon was the leader of that band, And all those black gal's knew that he was gay He played trombone and he never had a home, for he blowed so much he blew is all a way, You could hear him play on that old and rusty pipe, from early mor'n to very late at night and it made you wish ever day that he was dead, or very sick abed. But oh that tune, played by that coon did win the ham for his brass band, And now the town's for miles around, hear nothing but that dismal sound. For oh that Tune he played went something just like that oh ain't that flat please give me a bat And all those yellow gal's said oh my ain't that grand And that's the tune that won the ham for that coon band That great big coon who invented that fierce tune, Went out one night to serenade his best girl He found her out but the old man was at home, and he laid for Mister Coon with that trombone. There was just one shot and it must of hit the spot, for Mister Nigger never played no more and they buried him like they do all sporty coons, but not so with that tune. For ev'ry night, from down below a certain ghost does come and blow, And all those stiffs around that coon, have memorized that awful tune. For oh that Tune that ghost played sounded just like that oh ain't that queer please give me a beer.
