However, due to COVID, our year in Europe ended up looking like trees, hiking paths, mountains, and waterfalls. In this book, I aimed to capture the sense of discovery that we experienced each week as we approached a new waterfall. The process of getting to a waterfall is unique to each location, and the beauty of the destination was matched only by the sense of accomplishment for reaching it. The painted book pages illustrate the rocks and vegetation that together form each mountainside. Along the way, as the textual path veers in its own direction, there are glimpses of what is ahead. The accordion fold is an apt metaphor for the hike, as there is seldom a chance to see the entire path at once. And the phone case which encloses the book symbolizes the camera phones that we used to capture the experiences visually, while my soul held on to the intangible elements of each moment. The title of this book derives from our adult son asking how we were able to find so many waterfalls. Search here is the text in the Google Maps search field, and waterfalls near me was often my starting search for the week. Never before having lived near mountains, the sheer number of results was mind-boggling for me, but also so very exciting. The element of the search was such an integral part of finding each waterfall, as we had to navigate unfamiliar -- and sometimes tricky -- roads and trails, but the search really started with Google Maps. With bulleted text, I tried to capture the elements along the way and the steps of the hike itself. Short phrases are written slightly differently and with a hashtag to reflect the Instagrammable times we live and share in (which was especially important as we were living far away from family and friends). Silver splashes portray the water itself.
