These books have been a way to explore the letter Q - that quirky letter of distinct design. This transformational time has brought me to question my work and my role in society, politics and inhabitant of planet Earth - in ways that have not led to clear answers, but have inspired more questions. It has been a time of questioning the validity of being an artist, when the times require - demand - that more 'real' work is necessary to affect real change. So, ... 'The Question'. This book was created with solar prints and original marks and painting, in sumi ink, gouache and gold, to present the question of art-making and the maker's role, along with q-words relating to various aspects of 'the search'. I began to think about the letter Q, and an edition book I might conjure, in 1999, on the eve of the turning millennium. What would 2000 'and beyond' hold for the planet and its inhabitants?
