The four-panel accordion is designed to create an enclosure of tranquil space when displayed, with a single aperture offering a glimpse to anyone seeking refuge. A private place to retreat from the outside world, if only in the mind. The wire-edge binding technique allows for the structure to be reversible ; consequently asserting that the sanctuary can be either inside of us or it can surround us as a protective shield. The surface design is done in layers. The first layer was made on the handmade paper using colored pulp and stencils. After drying, paste paint was applied on top of the pulp motif.
