The scouts are enjoying a tasting of margarine along the river, which was located behind the home of their troop leader, Emma Loesch. Des Plaines’ first Girl Scout troop was organized in 1925 and held meetings at the Hawthorne Lane home of Loesch. Within a decade of the first troop’s foundation, an additional eleven troops had formed within the city. Though the first Des Plaines troop experienced the great outdoors on the Loesch family property, later troops traveled a few miles north to Camp Pine for weekends in the woods. A popular site for camping and cookouts, the Girl Scouts leased Camp Pine from the Cook County Forest Preserves from 1949 to 1966."},{"label":"Rights Statement","value":"COPYRIGHT NOT EVALUATED: http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/CNE/1.0/.
