The farm was located near River and Oakton, where Izaak Walton League stands today. Before electric washers and dryers, laundry was a physical, day long chore that occupied the women and girls of a household. Children often helped with carrying water for heating and use in the soaking, washing, and rinsing tubs. Children also cranked the wringer to squeeze excess water from rinsed and clean laundry.
