The monument stone showing the spot where the first shots of the American Revolution were fired is seen in the foreground. First Parish was organized in 1691, with the first meetinghouse erected a year later. The second meetinghouse was in use from 1715 to 1794. The third meetinghouse burned in 1846, with the current structure being erected in 1847.
