Bushnell.\" Bushnell served as a medical missionary to China, before becoming National Evangelist for the Women's Christian Temperance Union's Department of Social Purity. Bushnell was fluent in several languages and was once commissioned by the British government to investigate the opium trade between China and India. She was the author of \"God's Word to Women\", her study of the status of women in the Bible, believing it had been mistranslated and misinterpreted.
