Before her marriage to John Wilds in 1663, she had been censured for \"too great intimacy with Thomas Wardell\", and for the lesser offence of wearing a silk scarf, facts which may have lent her a poor reputation in the conservative Puritan community. The Wildses also feuded with the Gould family of Salem, who happened to be good friends with the Putnam accusers. These factors may have hastened Wilds's (also spelled Wildes) denunciation by Thomas Putnam, Jr. and John Buxton, who alleged that she had afflicted Ann Putnam, Jr., Mercy Lewis, and Mary Walcott. Other signatories also testified against her during the trials, including Humphrey Clark, Thomas Dorman, John Andrew John Gould, Zacheus Perkins, Elizabeth Symonds, Nathaniel Ingersoll, and the Rev. John Hale. After several weeks of imprisonment in the Boston jail, Wilds was executed by hanging in Salem on July 19, 1692.\n<br>\n<br>Please <a href=\"https://www.congregationallibrary.org/digital-collections/salem-witch-trials\" target=\"_blank\">visit our webpage on the Salem Witchcraft Trials</a> which includes links to additional source materials and helpful resources."},{"label":"Genre/Form","value":["Records and briefs"]},{"label":"Subjects","value":["Trials (Witchcraft)--Massachusetts--Salem"]},{"label":"Geographic Coverage","value":["Salem Village (Mass.)"]},{"label":"Names","value":["Ingersoll, Nathaniel","Putnam, Thomas"]},{"label":"Creator","value":["Wildes, Sarah, 1627-1692"]},{"label":"Reference Number","value":"MSS 401"},{"label":"Collection","value":["Salem Witchcraft Trials records, 1692-1693, undated."]},{"label":"Extent","value":"2 images"},{"label":"Date","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1692"},{"label":"Reformatting Type","value":["Access"]},{"label":"Camera Model","value":["Sony ILCE-7RM2"]}],"description":"Sarah Wildes testimony, 1692","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/16232eee-ac36-4506-8d1f-88afb0eeaf81/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"SalemWitchcraft_WildsSarah_001_001","height":2550,"width":3498,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/8b7d1406-cb4c-4d8f-85a9-ade5c6353298/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/8b7d1406-cb4c-4d8f-85a9-ade5c6353298","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":2550,"width":3498},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/16232eee-ac36-4506-8d1f-88afb0eeaf81/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/8b7d1406-cb4c-4d8f-85a9-ade5c6353298/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/16232eee-ac36-4506-8d1f-88afb0eeaf81/canvas/_2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"SalemWitchcraft_WildsSarah_001_002","height":2546,"width":3499,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/6ee78f79-baf2-4156-acf3-23e3fcb28f8b/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/6ee78f79-baf2-4156-acf3-23e3fcb28f8b","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":2546,"width":3499},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/16232eee-ac36-4506-8d1f-88afb0eeaf81/canvas/_2","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/6ee78f79-baf2-4156-acf3-23e3fcb28f8b/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/8b7d1406-cb4c-4d8f-85a9-ade5c6353298/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/congregationallibrary/iiif/logo"}
