The author's identity as a woman in STEM\nsparked her interest in analyzing how mediated discussions of women in STEM often harm their inclusion in\nthe field. The research applies a critical media analysis method, identifying key themes from the Google\nmemo titled \"Google's Ideological Echo Chamber\" written by James Damore. The paper also analyzes\ndiscussions from a YouTube video titled \"Ben Shapiro Interviews Google Memo Guy James Damore.\" The\ncontroversial nature of the memo, with countless open letters from disheartened women written in response,\nand the notorious fame of political commentator Ben Shapiro, garnering close to 400,000 views on this\ninterview alone, made this artifact suitable for analysis. Through a feminist lens using postmodemism and\nCriado-Perez's (2019) \"Invisible Women\" as theoretical framework, this research unpacks several\nstereotypes and refutes these beliefs by citing various related studies. The findings of this research, through\nthemes of biological determinism, leadership and gender bias, the importance of a woman's perspective and\nmisogynistic reactions, revealed the persistent gender biases ingrained in society that lead to women's\nunderrepresentation and underestimation in STEM fields.
