This print depicts a scene form the Kabuki play Hanaayame Bunroku Soga. The woman in the print is Omatsu who was left at home with her sons waiting for her husband Gennojo to return. She dreams one night that her husband has returned, just as handsome as she remembered him. When she wakes from the dream she realizes her husband is not back. Even worse Omatsu learns that her husband has been killed by the man he had set out to seek revenge against.
