A young woman in the bottom left-hand corner is falling back in fear as an old, monstrous woman looms over her. The old woman's clothing is falling from her body revealing her boney naked torso. In the background the giant ghostly apparition of a cat appears through the shredded reed blinds. The titular story of the cat stone is a legend told in Okabe. It says that a cat witch disguises herself as a kind old woman and haunted the temple grounds in the area. There she would lure young girls into her home in order to devour them. Eventually the witch was overwhelmed by her own evil and turned into a 'cat stone' which can be found in Okabe."},{"label":"Date created (EDTF)","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:1845 - D:00 M:00 Y:1846"},{"label":"Date created","value":"circa 1845-1846"},{"label":"Creator role","value":["Artist"]},{"label":"Creator","value":["Utagawa Kuniyoshi/ 歌川 国芳 (Signature: Ichiyûsai Kuniyoshi ga/ 一勇斎国芳画)"]},{"label":"Identifier - Local","value":"NE1325.U65_T6_0024"},{"label":"Extent","value":"1 file"}],"description":"Okabe: The Story of the Cat Stone/ 岡部: 猫石のはなし (Okabe: Nekoishi no hanashi)","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/e1408723-637e-4a99-b9b0-db75f18661a3/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Okabe: The Story of the Cat Stone/ 岡部: 猫石のはなし (Okabe: Nekoishi no hanashi)","height":8572,"width":5798,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/e1408723-637e-4a99-b9b0-db75f18661a3/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/e1408723-637e-4a99-b9b0-db75f18661a3","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":2048,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4,8]}]},"height":8572,"width":5798},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/e1408723-637e-4a99-b9b0-db75f18661a3/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/e1408723-637e-4a99-b9b0-db75f18661a3/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/e1408723-637e-4a99-b9b0-db75f18661a3/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/logo"}
