After being exposed to violence, the man began to suffer from depression and was using drugs and smoking marijuana before becoming delirious, according to his mother. He soon became addicted and is now in the SMHS hospital for a twenty-one day detox treatment. Thousands of Kashmiris suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety following decades of violent insurgency, counterinsurgency, and militarization that began in the early 1990s.
