A woman and young boy, possibly from a wealthy samurai family based on the boy’s double swords, stand at the base of a grassy hill in the evening. Behind them a pair of men sit at the top of the hill under a grove of trees. just past the hill to the left a vast field stretches back into the scene, dotted with trees and lit by the full moon. Dokan-yama was a popular evening destination for insect lovers in Edo because it was easy to hear various sounds of insects there. It was also cool in the evenings so many in Edo visited for leisure.
