Malanville is located 5 kilometers north of Bodjecali. Its weekend market draws people mostly from Niger, Benin, and Nigeria, but really from all over the region. In the early 1970s, it was busiest on Sundays, but that has changed over the years and it is now busiest on Saturdays. There were no banks, no hotels and no permanent stores when I was there except for the Daho-Niger, which was like a rudimentary department store that carried tinned food. There were three gas stations and three restaurant/bars. The other permanent structures, like the police station, infirmary, post office and mayor's office, had colonial style architecture and were painted in pastel colours."},{"label":"Title","value":"Market Day, Malanville, Benin, January 1972"},{"label":"Physical description","value":"Digitized by donor prior to donation."},{"label":"Peace Corps Community Archive","value":["Rebecca Bray Collection"]}],"description":"Market Day, Malanville, Benin, January 1972","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/ccbff9d2-abd2-44a6-9a33-843ed1fe6834/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Market Day, Malanville, Benin, January 1972","height":1084,"width":1604,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/ccbff9d2-abd2-44a6-9a33-843ed1fe6834/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/ccbff9d2-abd2-44a6-9a33-843ed1fe6834","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1084,"width":1604},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/ccbff9d2-abd2-44a6-9a33-843ed1fe6834/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/ccbff9d2-abd2-44a6-9a33-843ed1fe6834/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/ccbff9d2-abd2-44a6-9a33-843ed1fe6834/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/logo"}
