The bustling theater district is depicted as a crowded mass of buildings along the canal in Donton-buri. Various small boats fill the waters in the lower half of the composition. On the left side, the black bridge leading out of the frame is filled with people. Various colorful banners rise above the roofs of the buildings, advertising the various theaters and productions. The tiny figures of theatergoers and wealthy patrons fill the balconies overlooking the water. Kado-za was one of the major theatrical districts of Osaka where Kansai-style Kabuki was performed. Donton-buri is still a major city center in contemporary Osaka and some of the original theaters still exist in updated buildings."},{"label":"Extent","value":"1 file ; 72.5 MB"},{"label":"Digital Origin","value":["reformatted digital"]},{"label":"Media Type","value":["image/jpeg"]},{"label":"Type of resource","value":["still image"]},{"label":"Physical location","value":"American University Library.
