He was a militant and although he renounced the Kashmiri independence movement after he was arrested for having an AK-47 rifle, Indian security forces picked him up again and his body was never found. She is a member of the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP). Insurgency groups in Kashmir proliferated in the early 1990s, with some fighting for the region’s independence and others for its accession to Pakistan. Violent clashes between Indian security forces and the armed insurgency have often affected the daily lives of Kashmiri civilians.
