A trio, two women and a man, stand on the path leading to Otori Shrine. Behind them the path winds back into the scene crowded with people coming and going from the shrine. The festival depicted is Tori no ichi, a well-known event in Edo that took place on the day of the Rooster in the Eleventh Month of the lunar year. The man in the image is a holding a rake (kumade) which was a central item in the celebration, since farmers would bring them to the shrine to be dedicated. On his ceremonial rake there is a mask of a plump woman which was though to called forth good fortune. He is also holding a bundle of taro which was another auspicious item associated with the festival."},{"label":"Extent","value":"1 file ; 67 MB"},{"label":"Digital Origin","value":["reformatted digital"]},{"label":"Media Type","value":["image/jpeg"]},{"label":"Type of resource","value":["still image"]},{"label":"Physical location","value":"American University Library. This series is in a vertical Oban format. The series depicts a collection of specialty products, popular sites, and events around the capital of Edo. It is likely meant to serve as a kind of advertisement for the capital city and the collaboration was  likely so Hiroshige II could use Kunisada's name to sell more prints and increase his noteriaty early in his career."}],"description":"The Fair Held on the Day of Rooster, a Famous Rake/ 酉の丁銘物くまで","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/86d5590c-94e7-46dc-8596-bdf380c68106/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"The Fair Held on the Day of Rooster, a Famous Rake/ 酉の丁銘物くまで","height":5871,"width":3989,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/86d5590c-94e7-46dc-8596-bdf380c68106/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/86d5590c-94e7-46dc-8596-bdf380c68106","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":2048,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":5871,"width":3989},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/86d5590c-94e7-46dc-8596-bdf380c68106/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/86d5590c-94e7-46dc-8596-bdf380c68106/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/86d5590c-94e7-46dc-8596-bdf380c68106/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/logo"}
