Gujjars are an ethnic, nomadic community often living in the high mountain areas of the Himalayan region and in an area under contention between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control. They are often used as guides in the high altitude areas by both Indian military forces and Pakistani-supported militants as they try to infiltrate back into Indian-occupied Kashmir from training camps inside Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
