A variety of blankets in different prints and materials are hung from the vendors' shops for purchase. The blankets are displayed in a shaded area, beneath a thatched roof, as their vendors sit nearby."},{"label":"Note","value":"Photographer's note: Malanville, Benin is a border town between Benin and Niger and is located on the south shore of the Niger River. Malanville is located 5 kilometers north of Bodjecali. Its weekend market draws people mostly from Niger, Benin, and Nigeria, but really from all over the region. In the early 1970s, it was busiest on Sundays, but that has changed over the years and it is now busiest on Saturdays. There were no banks, no hotels and no permanent stores when I was there except for the Daho-Niger, which was like a rudimentary department store that carried tinned food. There were three gas stations and three restaurant/bars.
