A priest and a young male attendant are kneeling with their heads down and eyes closed before a woman who is positioned with her back to the viewer and her face turned to be visible. Her hair is loose and long and follows the contour of her dragging robes. This scene is from the tales of the priest Honen Shonin who dreamed one night about a beautiful woman with scales that had drowned in the Sakura-ga-ike. instead of dying she turned into a dragon. She was being tormented by worms in her scales so she asked the priest to pray for her relief.
